Does Your Sleep Apnea Seem Worse In The Summer?
I know that many of you are excited for the arrival of warmer weather and for the fact that the start of the summer season is a few short days away. Summer is a time we associate with longer days, activities in the sun, family vacations, and spending time with friends and family outdoors. While all of the summer fun is wonderful, if you suffer from sleep apnea you may have a different opinion. Continue reading to learn how summer fun can affect your sleep apnea symptoms.
Can Summer Affect Sleep Apnea?
While summer itself cannot affect sleep apnea, your actions can play a huge part. While many people think of the summer as a time of relaxation, for many adults it is anything but relaxing. For patients who suffer from sleep apnea, it is important to remember your care and how to avoid dealing with symptoms. Here are three things that can affect your quality of sleep this summer:
Change in Routine
The longer days allow for more time to be spent enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Unfortunately, this can lead to problems with your sleep apnea. Long days enjoyed outdoors often lead to a change in your bed time as well as your bedtime routine. For many, the amount and quality of sleep is less during the summer.
Vacation
Summer is a popular time for travel. It is important to be mindful of the rest you need while traveling. If you are driving, be sure to rest frequently. It is also important to bring any hardware you may need for sleeping.
Allergies
All of the fun in the sun is wonderful, except when you suffer from allergies. If you are planning to be outside for long periods of time, be sure to take an antihistamine or prepare for your allergies accordingly. Allergies can have a big part in sleep issues for those who suffer from sleep apnea.
