The Dangers of Not Following Through with TMD Treatment
Our team at TMD & Sleep Apnea Clinic is passionate about providing the care our patients need to eliminate discomfort. Our goal is for our patients to live their best lives and not worry about a flare-up or fear of discomfort creeping in when least expected. One of the best ways to ensure this is to follow the treatment plan set forth in our office. We know that it can be tempting to ease up on treatments when the discomfort is gone and you are living your best life. However, TMD is unfortunately a condition that can return easily and we would hate for you to experience lasting effects that can easily be avoided.
If It’s Not Broke, Don’t Fix It
The saying above can apply to many things in life, but it particularly applies to your TMD care. Unlike a broken bone that is treated and then heals, TMD can be a life-long condition for patients who routinely experience symptoms. Not following through with treatments can lead to unnecessary discomfort. Leaving TMD untreated for an extended period of time can greatly affect the quality of life and can even lead to more serious issues such as chronic discomfort and depression.
Home Remedies
If you are waiting for your appointment, there are several methods you can incorporate at home to help alleviate symptoms. Be sure to immediately switch over to a soft food diet and avoid hard or chewy foods. Try to take smaller bites and cut up food whenever possible. You can also apply warm, moist heat to your face before bedtime and when you first wake in the morning.
If you are a current patient and are experiencing a flare-up of your symptoms or want to review your treatment plan, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office. If you are experiencing TMD symptoms for the first time and have been referred to our office, we would love to meet with you. Be sure to contact our office located in Auburn & Silverdale, WA to schedule an appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
